Meaney Park Work Day a Smashing Success!
Thanks to Karl Pastore from the DCR and a few good folks from the neighborhood who came out early this morning, the Meaney Park clean-up was quick and painless. Even a little—dare I say it?—fun. I mean we got to dig in the dirt and play with power tools. Karl sprang for donuts and coffee. I don't know what your definition of fun is, but that comes close to mine. Here are some pics of the mum-blitz:

In the first two shots you can see Leslie and a couple of the kids from Little House who showed up, Eoin from Edison Green with his son, and Charles, who's fixing one of the benches, so the bums'll have better lumbar support. Then, in the third picture, that's my roommate, David, planting his memorial mum.
Aside from the mum blitz, we fixed a couple of the benches in the park and one of the swings, weeded, picked up trash, and swept the walks. Here are a couple of before/after shots:

Eoin was going to go back in the afternoon with some cedar mulch to fill in a little more around the mums. Karl says we need to make it look like they've been there all along. Because if people notice them they'll nick 'em. I have to admit, they were some good-looking mums, and the thought had occurred to me. Damn that Little Voice!
Anyway, we were in and out of there by the time the mizzle turned to a drizzle—the whole operation took about an hour—and I think the place looks a 100% better. And a good time was had by all. Sure can't beat that.
So thanks to all who showed up!
