Romney distances self from Mass. health plan

In the Globe.

At a gathering of conservative lawmakers in Baltimore, Romney told reporters: "It is very tempting as a legislator to say, 'You're right, we'll change the law so you don't have to pay anything.' And once that happens, now you start attracting people from all over that want to come get free care, and then the price starts going up, and taxpayers are going to start feeling a burden, and employers will start leaving the state."

What ass-hattery is this? This is so NOT the issue here. First of all, there's no one in the legislature saying "You're right, we'll change the law so you don't have to pay anything." Who's saying this? Who's suggesting anything even remotely like this?

The law requires 200,000 people who are not currently insured to buy insurance. It will likely require an additional 200,000 people to buy additional insurance. They have to buy it themselves—they're required to by law. They're the one's paying for it. That's the whole freakin point. So who's getting what for free and chasing businesses that are not being required to provide insurance out of the state?

But what do you expect from Romney? It's just more sleaze from the sleaze.
