Season Three, Day One

I was in the garden for a couple of hours Sunday, raking up leaves, and surveying the scene. This is year three for me, and my friend Chuck says that with gardens, the third year's the charm. Of course a garden is always a work in progress. That's what I like about it.

I planted about three hundred bulbs in the fall, and I was a little disappointed when I got to the garden and it didn't look like any of them were coming up. My neighbor Tony says we have our own little microclimate in row E, and that things tend to blossom a little late there.

At any rate, this time of year you have to look closely to see what's happening, and once I got down on all fours (please, no comments from the peanut gallery), I saw things differently.

As you can see, my tulips are coming right along. I will be tiptoeing through them in no time.
