Here, as Marcelo requested, is the link to the piece that ran on public radio this morning. The audio will be available at 10 a.m.—I have not heard it yet, myself. I hope I don't sound nasally.
John Wilpers and I have continued our correspondence, and last week John, who says he never considered me "disgruntled" (thank you, John), issued this challenge:
As to the quantity of quality bloggers, well, we can politely disagree and, how's this: Let's make a gentlemen's wager (a couple of beers at The Burren) that on June 1, 2008, our blogger count will be higher than it is on June 1, 2007?I can't refuse a pint of Guinness (as is fairly well-known in certain quarters, I am a food and beer whore), so I agreed. With the stipulation that I determine the quality crietria, since John is doing quantity.
I know I have a bit of an advantage here (since I should conceivably be able to control it), but it'll be fun to see how it turns out and if you're back from Africa, a few smooth Guinness pints would taste pretty good, no?
But now I am no longer a "disinterested observer."

You don't sound too nasally, more like a midwesterner affecting an east coast accent.

I was going to do my fake English accent instead, but I was afraid people would mistake me for Madonna (it happens more often than you'd think).
Plus that "east coast accent" is sooooo sexy!

FYI, Curt Nickisch, who produced the story for BUR, emailed to let me know that a similar version is scheduled to air nationally on Morning Edition later this week.
