Pitbulls Don't Maul People--People Maul People
There was a hearing yesterday on the proposed statewide ban on pitbulls. I would like to see as much passion for a statewide ban on guns, but I have a feeling it's not gonna happen.
Failing that we might just ban gun-owners, since, as even the NRA admits, they're the problem: guns don't kill people, after all, people kill people. With guns.
Or maybe gun-owners and dog-owners, and for that matter prospective parents should be required to submit to a battery of in-depth psychometric exams (I mean, heck, look what people are willing to put themselves through just to get on e-harmony.com), and be thoroughly examined by a team of specially-trained healthcare professionals before being licensed to own people-hunting paraphernalia, domesticated animals, or to reproduce.
Because really it's the people who own the guns, and the pets, and who make the babies who seem to be the root of the problem. If we spent as much time and energy on prevention of their paranoia, brutality, and neglect as we do on the results of it (which, frankly, isn't all that much, either), we'd probably be moving in the right direction.
So, personally, I'm all for a ban on pitbull-owners.

Thanks. I'll pack up my 6 foot chain link fence (used to keep the neighbors golden retrievers out of my yard), my array of practical leashes, collars, pet insurance, and just leave the great state of MASS. How about we ban IRRESPONSIBLE pitbull owners? It's people like me, who no one even guesses has one of these couch potatoes, that suffers right along with all the other 'law abiding' citizens. Geesh.

Totally agree that it is irresponsible pet owners who are the cause of the problem. I have a friend with two beautiful pitbulls, Terra and Luna, whom I have actually slept in the same sleeping bag with.
My point here really is that it's not the dogs but the people who raise them to be vicious that need to be dealt with.

I agree, it's the owners and not the specific breed. I have a neighbor that has a chihuahua, and it's a nasty, mean little shit of a dog. She never disciplines it or has even trained it as far as I can tell. I own a pittbull mix (PB/Black Lab) and is the sweetest thing. I have spent a considerable amount of time making sure my dog is well behaved and trained properly. And, don't even get me started on owners who don't clean up after their pets...grrrrrrrrrrrrrr
