Bumble Bee Ecstasy, Spring Passings
I shot this little short yesterday in the garden. Actually—disclosure!--over the fence—it's Tony's peony. It was chock-full of pollen, and this bumble bee was just going to town.
My poppies—or I should say, poppie, singular, as only one popped this year, and a sort of sad little solitary poppie it was—still gets an A for effort, poor thing:

The last of the bleeding hearts was still hanging on (this is Massachusetts, after all):

Despite continued phenomenal weather, yesterday was a sad day in the Fenway, where a memorial service was held in the garden for fellow gardener and former president of the Garden Society, Craig Masse, who passed away on the 16th.
Row E has also been coping with the passing of its crown jewel, this beautiful magnolia, which had begun to blossom in our unseasonably warm January, and was killed by the fierce return of winter.

There are still those who are holding out for a minor miracle, insisting that the leaf-buds are about to pop, but while I'd love to see it, with each passing day it gets less and less likely.

Do you ever tear apart a bleeding heart flower? You get the slippers, the earrings, and the winebottle.
At least that's what the pieces look like.
