Edens Everywhere

One thing I love about the Fenway Victory Gardens is the variety. Everybody has their own vision of what a garden is and how to go about bringing that vision to life. Just strolling around, from one garden to the next, you get a sense of this incredible diversity.

Boylston Row E tends to favor a naturalistic approach...

Although the plot at the end of the row is more formal than the rest...

Dave, whose first-year garden this is, is a Sox fan, and the bed in the middle is his version of Fenway Park, complete with its own little Green Monster:

There are some extremely formal plots elsewhere in the Fens, too...

And some serious vegetable gardens, too:

This vertical garden I find fascinating, though I haven't seen much evidence of actual vegetation in it yet:

This is the main style of garden in The Berkeley Street Community Gardens in the South End, too.  Most of the gardeners there are Asian.  Their method of gardening is very intensive, and dedicated to raising vegetables:

One of my very favorite plots in the Fenway is in the Park Street Section, N2:

Incredible, innit?  A real little Shangri-La.

So you can see, there's quite a variety.

My little Eden is coming along. The wild strawberries are starting to ripen:

I had tons of these last year. Sure, they're tiny, but, mm-mmm, they're tasty, too. I'll be poppin' 'em like PEZ here in a few days.

Now that the lilacs have done their thing, it's the honeysuckle's turn. Although I've got two lilacs in my garden and love them, I have to say I am partial to honeysuckle:

Lucky for me, the honeysuckle's in bloom everywhere right now.

When I'm takin' sips
From your tasty lips
Seems the honey fairly drips
You're confection
Goodness knows
Honeysuckle rose

Life is sweet.
