Bad Faith and The Bishops

Reading the letter from Massachusetts' Roman Catholic Bishops to legislators urging they vote yes on a referendum on gay marriage left me cold, I have to say.

The Roman Catholic Church in Boston is fixated on this issue in bad faith, and it reeks to High Heaven of Hypocrisy. Same old shite, but you'd think that after a couple of millennia people'd get, y'know, wise, and they'd have to come up with a new shtick.

Let's get one thing straight. The Church has never atoned for its sins against children. Cardinal Law, who presided over The Boston Archdiocese at the height of the abuse scandal was promoted. His successor, Sean O'Malley is as cynical as they come, as was his appointment to Boston. His vocal protestations are calculated PR, pure and simple.

Sean O'Malley was not sent to Boston to save the children. He was sent to Boston to save The Church.  The same church that chewed up countless children and spat them out without a thought. If, with a little queer-bashing and a cynical appeal to "children's rights" he can appease local Catholics, well, that's a good, cheap alternative to addressing the corruption that's endemic to the organization you run, innit?

I mean, here's a giant corporation run by a bunch of old men in drag to which democratic debate is anathema, which has demonstrated a history of institutionalized abuse of children coming up with lines like: "The
people should determine for themselves whether adult interests truly outweigh children’s rights."

The highly charged, and more importantly highly public marriage debate gives the Bishops an opportunity to publicly trumpet the church's newfound concern for the rights of children.

The Bishops' letter also champions democracy, which is greatly valued, as we all know, within the Church, calling on legislators not to "abrogate" the rights of citizens to vote on the matter, by leaving stand the decision of "seven unelected justices of the Supreme Judicial Court." Unelected, activist judges. A common battle cry of the political right when they don't get their way. Who's sleeping with the devil, priest or politician? I can't tell anymore, myself.

It's nearly sublime, it's so ridiculous.

The Bishops should thank God for gays, is all I can say. And thank him twice for gay marriage. It could not have come at a better time for the Boston Archdiocese.

The catholic church has long ago lost any kind of moral authority. O'Malley and the rest of the bunch of dumbass dress wearing hypocrites really need to have a big steaming mug of STFU - with marshmallows!
