This, From the People Who Gave You The Big Dig...

Now, they want to reroute Storrow Drive onto the Esplanade.  For at least two years.

According to the Globe, "Richard Sullivan, commissioner of the State Department of Recreation and Conservation, said the bypass road would cut construction time by six months and save the state $5 million."

Where have we heard that kind of math before? In Massachusetts, a public works project that is scheduled to last more than two years will be over-budget by at least 25% a year and overdue by at least two years, more than offsetting any piddling $5 million projected savings.

This is really about inconveniencing yuppie joggers, isn't it?

This project is never going to happen - at least in this configuration. The high-mortgage paying folks in the Back Bay, not to mention the Mass Hysterical Society are going to blow a gasket over this one!

It's going to be fun watching all the law suits being filed within the next six months.

I'm inclined to agree with RG on this one. The well heeled simply are not going to put up with it. NIMBY at work. It will be interesting to see what even more ridiculous and expensive alternative is come up with so that the privileged class can enjoy its privilege.
