It's Deja Vu All Over Again (+ 38%)

I heard an interview with our old friend Eric Bourassa of MassPIRG on public radio yesterday afternoon, conjuring the spectre of the T raising fares. Again.

MassPIRG has just put out a study that, according to the Globe, says in part:
If fare increases alone are used to close the budget gaps, they would have to increase by at least 38 percent over the next five years. This would boost the cost of a single subway ride to $2.35 on a CharlieCard, and the cost of a Zone 4 commuter rail pass to $257 per month.
Those of you on corporate welfare who are still riding the T by then may find yourself alone on the platform, but at least you'll have MBTA commercial radio to keep you company. One long, uninterrupted Bud Light commerical broadcast over and over again to empty stations all along the line.

Bon voyage! (or is it "Geronimo-o-o-o-o-!"?)
