Inside the Mind of a Sox Fan
Several of the revelers arrested near Fenway Park after the Red Sox captured the American League title, were in court yesterday to read essays they'd written about the night they spent in jail.
Most of the seventeen arrested that night were students from nearby campuses, according the the Globe, and the essays provide an intriguing snapshot of that segment of the Sox fan-base.
What I found most fascinating was the diversity of Sox Nation the essays evince. Not only do you have the run-of-the mill "A diehard Red Sox fan is what I am; this situation will not change that," but you have the art school activist, who, predictably, declares she was "violated." I see a performance piece. The Fangina Monologues, maybe?
My favorite was the kid from Emmanuel College, who decided to make a political statement.
"I was angry about the government. I tried to be radical. It didn't work out for me."
Who knew Sox Victory Riots were so richly nuanced and complex?
