There Was Blood
No, I'm not talking about the Iowa Caucuses. I managed to wrangle a couple of passes to an advanced screening of There Will Be Blood tonight at Loews Boston Common.
I loved every inch of this film. Every last little inch. Which accounts for why I was the only one applauding at the end. But whatever. It was a weeknight in Boston, and past people's bedtime by the end, so I think they may have been too cranky to fully appreciate it. These advanced screenings in Boston should always be matinées.
The reviews all cautioned not to take the ending too seriously. Many said they thought it was a mistake. Don't listen. It was brilliant. But be prepared. There's truth in advertising. There will be blood.

I saw the trailer for this when I saw The Savages on Wednesday. It looked interesting and I'll have to see it based on your review. I made a mental note that D D-L will have to be one of my upcoming Wednesday hunks.

I remember how taken with Daniel Day-Lewis I was as a high school kid in the eighties -- circa Room with a View, Eversmile, New Jersey, and especially The Unbearable Lightness of Being. But he is a seriously serious actor, and while his performance in There Will Be Blood is All That, you probably won't find it very sexy. That can be sexy in a way, though, I guess. I mean, sexy actors who are actually willing to sex it down for a role.
By the way, Gavin, there's no accounting for taste, and it's possible you'll hate the movie, particularly the ending, but it worked for me.

I hear you on accounting for taste. I really didn't like The Savages, but it's getting tons of Oscar buzz. And it's up for Best *Comedy* at the Golden Globes but I found it to be one of the most depressing movies I've seen in a long time.
