Stop the Madness!

Talk of another fare hike at the T has begun in earnest.  This time GM Dan Grabauskas warns that it will be substantial.  "If you don't want to cut service, it's going to have to be hefty."

"The next fare increase, I don't know what that number would have to be, but it would have to be pretty substantial," Grabauskas said. A 25 percent increase would mean it would cost $2.50 to ride the subway and almost $1.90 to catch a bus.

Deval Patrick has yet to show any real leadership on the issue, as he promised to do back in 2006 when he was running for office.  But his office has released a statement, according to the Globe "expressing Patrick's commitment 'to work together to deliver quality, affordable public transit.'"

Well, Governor, let's get on it already.

Why is this man still head of the T? He's a Republican holdover who's huge claim to fame is that he thinks he digitized the Registry of Motor Vehicles. Name me a state in the Union that does not have a motor vehicle registry with a web site.

The ineptitude at the T management is beyond negligent, it's approaching malfeasant. How much money would it take to have signs at the bus stops that tell you where the bus goes and how often it comes? They may have this in some locations, but I assure you that in my neighborhood all you see is a sign that says a bus will stop here sometime in the future, and who knows where it will take you. It's an adventure!

And if the PA system in a station doesn't work, do us all a favor and don't use it. It's just crazy-making, like the way the Communists in China used to install PA systems all over the place that you couldn't shut off and broadcast over them constantly, basically to prevent people from being able to think over the din. If I see something, I'll say something, OK Dan?

And why does the Orange Line always smell like farts after noon? I'm sure the fine people in Malden eat plenty of things that make them gassy and all, but really this would seem like something that could be fixed and would really improve the quality of life for Orange Line riders.

And why doesn't the first leg of the Silver Line connect with the second leg? Why doesn't the Silver Line from Dudley simply swing by South Station so at least people can pick up their connection there, instead of being dropped of in the f*&king Ladder District where they can walk to Downtown Crossing and get the Red Line to get to South Station and pick up the rest of the Silver Line to complete their trip?

Every day, in every way, T management lets you know that, really, they'd much rather you DIDN'T take the T.

So now they get this gift of extra ridership, for which they have to do absolutely nothing - not add trains, nothing. It's free money. And what is Grabauskas' reaction? Jesus Christ people, would you please stop riding the T?! If you don't stop, we'll have to raise fares again! By alot!!!!

Mmm, I love the smell of T-rage in the morning!

Good points, Toby.  I think you should be the next GM, or at least head of PR.  I found two great new advertising slogans for the T in your comment:

      The T: Always an Adventure!

      and

      The T: OK, Who Farted?

How about: "Thank you for riding the T. Now, don't you wish you had taken the car instead?"
