Cracked
God works in mysterious ways. One man's blessing is another man's curse.
Plodding through contruction at Copley Square, the MBTA's contractors have caused a great, gory crack in the "arts wall" of the Old South Church. As the blogger who broke the story laments, "the organ should not be played, now, as it could prompt large portions of the plaster to fall." Which puts the parade of Christmas concerts usually scheduled for this time of year in question, not to mention the very future of one of the largest organs in New England.
Which leads me to wonder: can the MBTA get anything right? It is not out of the question that there's some Sox-like curse in play that we don't know about here.
Truth is, sometimes you get the feeling that for the T getting all wrong all the time is alright with them. We all know how they love those "schedule readjustments." Anything to punish those of us with no choice but to put our fates in their hands.
Face it, the T hates us. Even — especially — the most vulnerable of us. When the story came to light they were quick to remind us that none of this would have happened if they hadn't been compelled to comply with that pesky Americans With Disabilities Act. It's the handicaps' fault!
The good news is that this will mean lots more delays in contruction of subway entrances that will eventually, much later rather than sooner, bring the green line closer to ADA-compliance. Whew. We were beginning to think things weren't going to be sufficiently delayed. The T has assured us that the "project has been indefinitely halted." What a relief.
God willing, this will add millions to the price tag of the project, as well. Which in turn will hopefully mean more standing-room only "high-capacity" cars to cut costs, and another fare hike — sooner than later please!
As for Old South, what is God trying to say? I'm sure I don't have to tell you we're not talking about just any God, here, either. As the Globe reports, it's Obama's God we're dealing with. Why would Obama's God let this happen? It's the eternal question: why do bad Transit Authorities happen to good people?
