A Bleak Winter for Dining Out in Back Bay and the Fenway
This morning a blaze on Peterborough Street destroyed six Fenway restaurants: Sorento's, Umi, El Pelon, a little Thai place, a Greek place and Thornton’s. These are all spots I know and love, and visit frequently in the summer when I'm hanging out in and around the garden, which is just at the other of Peterborough.

Some of the best sidewalk dining in the city up in smoke. Let's hope they're all back in business come Spring.
I also received bad news from my friends Iory and Leo of Casa Romero, one of the Back Bay's most charming little eateries, who made an awful discovery Christmas day:
When we entered the restaurant there was a flood of hundreds of gallons of water pouring from all over the ceiling of the entry way and front dining room. The floor was drenched in two inches of water and the sub basement was 8 inches deep in water with more water pouring down. They hope to start rebuilding this week, and to be back in operation by February.
During cold weather before Christmas the water pipes broke in the old L'Espalier kitchen on the second floor above us. Leo had been to the Casa on December 24th about mid day and everything was fine. We were closed on Christmas eve. So some time between mid day on the 24th and mid day on the 25th the pipes burst and had been flooding the building for some hours.

OMG El Pelon burned down?? Noooooooooo!!!
