What especially drew me in was the medium: spices on canvas. Below each of the four works on display is a bowl of spice, which I thought was another nice touch...
The paintings are part of a series called "Project Shelter", which De la Barra is working on with the help of the Somerville Homeless Coalition. The portraits are of guests at the Coalition's Davis Square shelter.
