    Mike,

My interest was piqued at the mention of a failure of public works vis a vis water, living in New Orleans as I do. I went to the 25 things and notice the escalators play a role in the demise of the elderly and otherwise careless folk there. I have two friends moving to the area soon. Should I warn them about this danger? They are young enough but they drink a little.

    Happy spring.

Well, they have eaten a person or two.  I would just tell them if they're going drinking, don't wear a scarf, and if they simply must wear a scarf to go drinking, they should take a cab home.

But the way things are going with the MBTA, they might not need to worry.  It'll be cheaper to catch a cab anyway.
