Dusk in the Fenway Victory Gardens

(Anyone have any ideas on this last one? It's not in bloom now — these are faded flowers left over from the fall, unles I'm mistaken.)*
Every Spring it's more or less the same, but it just never gets old.
More here.

that last one IS in bloom! It's a hellebore -- blooms at the very end of winter.

The last flower you asked about, is helleborus, or hellebore to be precise. Also called Lenten Rose because of when it blooms (provided you know when Lent is, I don't). Those actually are the blooms, generally beginning in early Feb and continuing into June. Blooms in shade and isn't a native flower, originates in Siberian regions and probably escaped from someone's garden.

Your gardening friends get up early! I'm delighted they've put you onto this new plant. This one is a treasure for a climate like yours.
If gardening weren't such hard work and all we had to do was plant, do you think we'd lose interest?

I loves me some perennials, gotta say.

That last one looks like a Hellebore to me, which is, in fact, in bloom now. They tend to come out in different muted shades like that, anything from white to dark purple blooms. Also called "Lenten Rose."

Such LOVELY shots of the gardens at the Fens! All this fab weather has made my green thumb twitch too...well, okay, my green tinted thumb might be a result from the recent Irish holiday...but still! :)
