If It Speeds, It Leads

I didn't see the front page of the printed edition of the Globe until lunch today.

OK, so I know no one looks to the news for historical perspective anymore, but this is a little ridiculous...

I mean, half of the front page taken up by a cell-phone pic of Tom Brady after a fender-bender with a minivan on Newbury Street?  And then a front-page story on some douchetard who wants to burn the Koran?

And the beginning of the end of DADT gets a tiny mention and directions to page two?

Really?

This historic victory in the long war to end an unnecessary, archaic and unjust policy that has resulted in the needless destruction of over 13,000 careers and the weakening of our armed forces isn't front page news in Boston?

Really?

Clearly, there are more wingnuts and football fans than there are gays, although, for what it's worth, I was taught in journalism classes that top left spot on the front page was for the second most important news. (Sound familiar?) A quick scan shows no news of women at all. That sounds familiar too.

BTW, Jones has taken down his website but a Google screen cache shows he was still billing himself as "Dr." last week. He was fined 3,000 Euros for that fraudulent claim before he was drummed out of Cologne. The Germans require correctness in such matters. His book came out in August, I think, and it's out of stock at Amazon. They don't call the author "Dr." The reviews are hilarious.

He bought a fancy house near New Orleans in 2007 to be near his fledgling church in the ninth ward--I haven't tracked that down yet--according to the German man who keeps the grass cut at the house. It's been on the market for a year now. Perhaps he's given up on New Orleans and is implementing his new plan for fame and fortune. News Sky has a summary of his career.

I believe this man meets the definition of terrorist. He certainly terrifies me.

Thank you for keeping things in focus, good sir. Honestly, the hype surrounding Brady's fender-bender was ridiculous, and I heard all about it - EVEN IN MAINE. Ugh...

Now, back to focusing on starfish, seagulls, and that cute lobsterman I saw down on the dock...

Count this not as a victory YET -- The Obama Administration may elect to defend the continuation of DADT rather than take a judicial victory. Obama says he stands by revocation via legislative procedure, which after the coming elections COULD mean no revocation at all depending on the volatile situation among Republican extremists, Republican moderates who have suddenly decided that gay marriage and civil rights aren't so end-of-civilization-as-we-know-it after all, the generally off the wall Teabaggers who claim that the culture wars aren't on their radar but who knows?, and various shades of Democrat many of whom are doing a good imitation of old-style Republicans. Oh, and then throw Libertarians into the mix.

The moment the Head of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and the Defense Secretary told the Congressional Committee that DADT was evil and should be revoked immediately (with accompanying TV pans of white-faced, shell-shocked Republicans) there should have been an immediate Presidential Order ceasing the dismissals and the damned thing should have been revoked the quickest way possible. Our president seems unable to seize initiatives and opportunities, even when they are handed to him on a silver platter, concerning issues he claims to advocate. Can anyone explain that man, in whom I once fervently believed, to me?

Isn't Tom Brady the second coming of Christ? Maybe the city will provide storage for his sperm. It could be stored along with Ted Williams.
