Restaurant Row Ready To Rise Again?
I passed by restaurant row on my way from the gym yesterday and actually saw three or for construction type workers with ladders and sawhorses inside. Could it be that Restaurant Row is finally ready to rise again?
I had read a few weeks ago that the owner of the property had finally given up on dreams of a high rise hotel on the lot, and had decided, awe, fuck it, to just rebuild pretty much as is.
In fact, in toodling around the internet this morning to see what I could see I came upon this criagslist ad:
**LOCATION**LOCATION**RESTAURANT ROW**NEW CONSTRUCTION**PRELEASE NOW! (RESTAURANT ROW/PETERBOROUGH ST/FENWAY )
Date: 2010-10-20, 8:48PM EDTReply to: hous-ztgeb-2017078823@craigslist.org

According to Adam over at Universal Hub, they plan to have construction completed in six months. Adam didn't link to a source, so I'm not sure if he's just eyeballing it, or what.
Will it be the same old Restaurant Row? The ad on CL would suggest not enitrely. It's an ad for rental space for at least two of the storefronts, one of which is obviously Sorrento's old location. It's been two years, and apparently a couple restaurateurs got tired of waiting. The ad does indicate that four of the six vendors have "already signed up" (Thai, Mexican — yay, El Pelon! — Japanese, and "Bar/Grill" — hopefully meaning the return of Thornton's), which is great news.
If they do reopen by late Spring/early Summer, I'm hoping that we, at the Fenway Victory Gardens, can partner with them on a little Restaurant Row Renaissance Festival — to coincide, perhaps, with a "Wake Up the Earth!" celebration (bring your pots, pans, and your brass band, if you got one)!
A parade around the Fenway and then a block party on Peterborough. What say you, Fensheads? Is it a date?

Sources? We don't need no steenkin' sources!
Always wanted to say that. In any case, my source was Barry, the broker whose contact info is on that Craigslist ad (yeah, I've been doing this reporting thing long enough that you'd think I should know to include sources).
