DOMA doomed?

Maybe he really is a Ninja.

Will the somewhat surprising and very welcome news that the Obama Administration will cease defending DOMA in court (the law will continue to be enforced until either a higher court strikes it down or it is repealed by Congress) whip the so-called Family Values crowd into a frenzy?

That might just be the point.

Push them right over the edge, right?

I mean, the majority of Americans don't want anything to do with right wing weirdos and their sexual obsessions.  It's gotten so that it's not homosexuality that creeps people out, it's the obsession with it on the right.

The Phelps Family, for example.  That's where the "Family Values" trip ultimately ends up.  And any of us would rather have Adam and Steve as neighbors — even if they brought a troop of Pomeranians with them —  than Fred Phelps and his loudmouth trashy clan.

And that's really what it comes down to, doesn't it?  Who raises the property values?

Yeah, we all know the answer to that.

Gays just make good sense.  When you look at it like that you realize Mr. Obama is not really taking much of a gamble.  But it's nice to see he's taking a stand.

I always believed that as soon as DADT was gone, many other obstructions would fall very quickly. The fact that the iconic title of Veteran can now be worn by service men and women who will have served openly as gay men and lesbians, means that it will be nearly impossible for the conservatives to deny them their full rights -- and us into the bargain.

I was really happy to read this and think its a logical (if not expected) evolution in Obama's position. However, I would like him to now push for its repeal. Simply not defending DOMA in the courts is not enough.
